Well referenced and illustrated with historical depictions of the style, the primer covers how the style developed from a seemingly more inclusive style to the modern jackets only style it is now practiced as, it's notable occurrences historically, and it's competitive methods both historical and modern, including those techniques which have been removed or reduced in popularity as the sport has developed.

The primer finishes with a description of some of the more common or high percentage throws and takedowns, and discusses where pertinent the differences in terminology between historical and modern expressions of the style.
